Environment of The Great Gatsby

Now that you are already researching material relating to The Great Gatsby, your task is to choose one of the major areas of research (The Roaring 20s, The Great Depression, Flappers, or The Jazz Age).  In your own words, discuss your particular interest in this topic.  What did you learn from the research that you did not realize before?  How does this information help you to visualize how the Great Gatsby fit into the era of the 20s?  If you had lived during this period of time, how do you believe you would have enjoyed  or not enjoyed life?

Choose one of the following famous F. Scott Fitzgerald quotations.  Indicate which quotation (by number) that you are blogging about.  IN YOUR OWN WORDS, discuss what the quotation means to you.  This should be approximately one full page in length (on a word document before posting it here).  You can discuss how the quotation works in the Great Gatsby but also show your universal understanding and interpretation of the quotation too.

1.  "one ought to be able to see that things are hopeless and still be determined to make them otherwise."

2.  "there are no second acts in American lives."

3.  "The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function."

Assessment of Quarter 2 and the Research Process

Class

In this blog, I would like you to evaluate the research process that you completed during Quarter 2 in Accelerated English III.  Think about the beginning of the process and the need to select a topic.  What did you learn in the Research Process in this class? Be specific. By the end of the process, how did you feel about submitting your final paper?  Why?  How will this benefit you in the future?  Be sure to offer suggestions for improvement for next year's research paper if you believe something else will help this process.  Respond to two of your peers also (more than a simple agreement).

NO BLOG DUE THIS WEEK

Class

Due to two major reasons, I will not be posting a blog this week.
1.  Midterm exams will require that you use this time for study
2.  My dear uncle is dying and I have been at the Kane Hospital almost around the clock which has given me little time to plan more than I already have.

Have a good weekend.
