Let's Have Lunch!

Think of a FAMOUS person from the past (must be dead now) that you would like to have lunch with.  Explain why you have chosen this particular person to dine with (be sure it is a creative or a valuable reason).  Where will you have lunch? What that particular place?  What will be the most important question you ask your lunch guest?  How do you expect him/her to respond?  What else do you expect to learn during lunch with this famous person?  What would you like this guest to remember about you when lunch is over?  Add any significant bits of information that will help your classmates understand what makes you tick - just by nature of whom you selected for this lunch.

  1. If I had the chance to have lunch with a famous dead person I would pick John F Kennedy. I was having a hard time thinking of someone to write about. As I was looking I knew I wanted to do someone that interested me. JFK was someone who has always interested me!
I feel like whenever I hear things about JFK they are always good. Also a lot of people liked him because of his looks and charm. Even though his term was only for a short time. I think that if i would have lunch with him i would probably want to go to Olive Garden. I picked there because its my favorite restaurant. I would ask him about his life as when he was younger. I know he was a big athlete. This interests me because i am a fan of sports and i think it would be cool to learn about it all. I feel like he would tell me a lot about how him and his brother went to the same academy. His brother had already been going there for two years before he came there. I would also ask him about what being in WWII was like. I would want him to tell me what it is really like to be in WWII. It would be cool to hear from someone first hand from someone who actually experienced the war scene. Another question i would ask him was everything about his presidency. I would ask him many questions about everything like why he ran and what he was planning to do if he was able to stay in office longer. Also i would ask him about all his life tragedies. About how is wife had a miscarriage and how one of his sons died after he was born. I think the most important question i would ask would be, if he knew he was gonna die the day he did would he have done anything differently during his lifetime? I would love to know what he would have to say. These are all of the questions I would ask. I feel like he is just a very interesting man and I would like to find out a lot about him.

    1. Hayley, I had never thought about doing JFK. He is one of the greatest presidents America has had. I agree with what you said about his good looks and charm because I remember learning about that last year in cultures. I really like the Olive Garden and I think that would be a nice, quite place to talk to President Kennedy. I guess I had forgotten that he was in WWII so that would be really interesting to listen to what he had to say about it. I think that he also faced some critism because he was Catholic. Presidents aren't usually Catholic so I would be curious to hear what that had to have been like. He seemed like he faced a lot of hardships in his life and you did a really good job of pointing those things out. I really liked your last question about him dying. I also wonder what his answer would be to that question. Really well done on the blog this week Hayley!

    2. Hayley, I never really thought of taking with a president. JFK was a great one to talk about! He was one of the greatest presidents and had a lot of dreams for Americans. Olive Garden would be a peaceful place to sit and talk with the president. JFK never would have eaten at an Olive Garden before so that would also be something neat for him to experience. I think it would be interesting to hear what he had to say about all of his views and the criticisms he faced because he was a Catholic and he had some different views from what other people had. It would be interesting to hear his thoughts about his death and if he forgives the person who shot him. It would also be interesting to know what the things he would do before he died if he knew that he was going to die.

  2. The famous person that I would love to have lunch with would be Art Rooney. He was the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers when they first came into the National Football League in 1933. I have chosen him to dine with because I am a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and love the history behind the team. I love to watch all of the sports that take place in Pittsburgh and it is a city that is filled with history. People may think that girls can’t be sports fans, but I don’t believe that. I grew up watching sports and I enjoy watching the Steelers play. I fell in love with them even more after I heard the story of Art. Art Rooney was very well known in the sports world after going to school in Pittsburgh. He was originally from Ireland and moved to America after the potato blight. He was able to purchase the team after the NFL expanded. He loved to team so much that he made sure that the team would stay in the family after he passed away. If I could go to lunch with Mr. Rooney I would want to go to Primanti Brothers, which is a famous sandwich shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It has been a staple in Pittsburgh and is known around the world so it would be perfect to dine there. I think the most important question that I would ask him would be how he kept such a close family together while traveling all the time with his team. I come from a very close family and I think that it would be hard being away all the time. I think that he would say something about being raised Catholic and how much of an impact that made on his life. He would probably say something along the lines of making time for family and making sure they were his first priority. He was very successful in what he did and how he created such a great organization. I think he would also talk about keeping the team in his family and the Steelers have continued their success even after he had passed away. The team has since been passed on to his son Dan and then to his grandson Art Rooney II. I would really enjoy meeting this person because I enjoy watching sports and also enjoy reading about the history of them. Art would be a great person to talk to about living a Catholic life while in the public eye. I think that can be challenging sometimes because a lot of people don’t talk about religion in public, but Art wasn’t afraid to talk about where he came from. He is a good example of someone who came from nothing and was able to make a dynasty that still lives on today.

    1. Camille, I know that you are a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers so it is no surprise that you picked Art Rooney to talk about. I like that you said that people think girls can't be sports fans but in reality they can. I feel like Art Rooney was a real family man. He loved the team and wanted to keep in the family after he passed away. Primanti Brothers would be a great place to have lunch with him! Pittsburgh is famous for this sandwich shop. I think that it would be hard to always be traveling with the team and keeping a good family life. I think that he would say that making time for family should be a person's top priority and that his family means the world to him. You are right it would be challenging to be a Catholic and talk about religion in the public eye. He is an example of a great family man and role model.

    2. Camille, Art Rooney is a terrific person to have lunch with. I know a lot about Mr. Rooney because I am also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Pittsburgh is such a great city with a lot of history behind their three main sports, football, baseball, and hockey. Primanti Brothers would be a great place to have lunch at. I have seen it before in the city, but I never stopped at it. It is a great place because it is also in the city that Rooney went to school at. Art Rooney did not only care about his team, he cared for his family. His family was one of the most important things for Art, and he tell someone that they need to treat their family with love and compassion.

  3. The famous person that I would choose to have lunch with would be Roberto Clemente. Roberto was a very famous right fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1960s-1970s. He won two World Series for the Pirates. On December 31, 1972, Roberto was on a plane headed to Nicaragua for a mission trip, and the plane crashed and many people died, including Roberto Clemente. Roberto is considered the best player in the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates and one of the best players to ever play in Major League Baseball.
I have chosen Roberto Clemente because I have heard many stories regarding him and I am a huge Pirates fan. I heard that he was the nicest person on the team and would always stick around his games and sign autographs for kids and stay and talk to them. If I would have to pick any place to have lunch with him, I would choose Planet Hollywood. I would choose this restaurant because it has many famous artifacts from Hollywood in it, but it also has many sports valuables in it. One time while I was there, there was a particular artifact from Roberto Clemente in it. The question that I would ask him would be what it was like to win a World Series and what the locker room was like after the game. I would expect him to say something like it is the most amazing feeling in the world; this is something that you put all your effort and hard work into, and it pays off. Some things that I would love to learn from him would be his family, and what he does off the field. I do not know much about him, other than hearing that he was a very reverent man that cared about his teammates more than himself. After losing in the 1972 National League Championship Series to the Cincinnati Reds, Clemente told his teammates that they would get them next year, and he was very positive about that. No one knew that the game that they lost would be the last game that he would ever play. The best thing that I would like Roberto Clemente to remember me by would be my love for the game of baseball, and my love for the Pittsburgh Pirates. I would tell him that I never saw them have a winning season, and he would smile and say “don’t worry, it will happen.” I can’t wait till that moment happens.

    1. Andrew, I think your choice of whom you would dine with fits you well. I know for a fact that you are a Pirate’s baseball maniac! I think that it would to be cool to meet a famous athlete of any kind. I know that I would love to meet any famous tennis players! I like that you would express your devotion to their team and also for the sport itself. The question that you chose to ask him is very good one. How would it feel to acomplish such a great task. I know I would be extremely happy and proud. That is someting I would never forget. I also like your choice in where you would dine. Personally I have never been in a Planet Hollywood restaurant, but it sounds like an interesting place to eat. Now you made me want to go there for its interesting atmosphere. I like that you pointed out the positive attitude of your famous guest. Great Job!

    2. Andrew, I think you chose a quality person to have lunch with. Even I know you are really into the Pirates. I have also heard of Roberto Clemente and how great of a player he was. Another question that I would consider asking would possibly relate to the plane crash, possibly asking if he fulfilled his dreams before his death, if he thought he lived a good enough life by that point, or possibly asking if he thought he deserved such a death since he died while going on a mission trip? Your destination for lunch seems like a perfect atmosphere for a talk with an athlete. I think you described a perfect day that many people should consider planning. Good job!

  4. There are many famous people in the world’s history that I would like to meet, but there is one person I would LOVE to meet. This famous person unknowingly has touched my life in a special way. For those who know me well, I bet you could guess whom I speak of. I like this person not because of his looks or charm, but for his invention(s)/creation(s). The famous (deceased) person with whom I would dine with is Walt Disney.
As you may or may not know I am a Disney fanatic!! I would be ecstatic to dine with Walt Disney. I would probably go out to dinner with him in his Magic Kingdom theme park. To be more specific I would dine with him inside Cinderella’s Castle. (By the way their breakfast food is amazing!) I would take him out to eat for breakfast first thing in the morning. During breakfast I would ask him many questions. The most important question that I would ask him would be “How he started the idea of everything involved in Disney World?” “What started it all?” During the meal I would listen and learn about how Walt Disney made his dreams come true. I would learn how he developed his ideas. Additionally, I would learn about Walt Disney’s life. I would expect to hear about his family and how they affect his life. The creation of Disney World would show how much of a family oriented person he is/was. I would reveal how much of a loving, kind person Walt Disney is/was.
Walt Disney changed family entertainment for the better. Throughout the meal I would explain to him how his creation affected my life. I would explain to him that I am a family oriented person, and how much my family means to me. I would also tell him about how my family goes to Disney World for vacation even to this day. Disney World is one my favorite places to be. Anytime I go or even think about Disney, my mind takes flight not only to my imagination but also it reminds me of my family. Disney is the place where dreams and memories are made. For me Disney is the place where my family’s relationship grows. My family and I can have fun and goof off. Especially Disney is the place where my sisters and I all get along and get to spend time with each other. Disney is the place where you can let your outgoing personality shine. Disney World is the one place where everyone in family is happy and is able to relax and have fun. Even till this day when I go to Magic Kingdom and watch their fireworks display (titled Wishes), I get goose bumps and my heart is filled with joy and love for my family. Also I am not afraid to share this detail that every time I watch those fireworks, I cry. (I make my own waterworks. hahaha) Also when my vacation is over, I cry on the last night we are there. Disney World is and always will have a special place in my family’s and my hearts.
At the end of meal I would be sad to leave. I would hope that Walt Disney would remember me by my life stories I shared with him at breakfast. Family is the most important thing in life. That is the message I would like to leave with Walt Disney. I want him to remember by my love and compassion that I expressed for my family. Also at the end of the meal I would thank him for his creation. Not only for the theme park(s) he created, but also for the stories I grew with. I would also add in the fact that I basically own all the VHS movies he created. Thanks to him, I will always have a special place to visit. Words cannot describe the feelings that I experience when I go to Disney World.

    1. Marla, way to represent the Disney fandom! Growing up with you and spending so many hours running around the parks, I am not at all surprised you chose Walt Disney. I agree with you, he must have been a wonderful family man. It would take a specific type of person to develop his own world where "dreams come true." Walt must have been a very caring humanitarian because it is quite obvious he loved to make people happy and do what ever it took to make their dreams come true. From the biographies they play in Disney and his "Carousel of Progress" from the 1964 New York World's Fair, we know that Walt wanted the best for mankind, and believed progress would get us there. After all, "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of everyday. There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, just a dream away!"

    2. Marla, I should have known all along that you would pick Walt Disney. This is the perfect assignment for you! I am not gonna lie, I sorta got goosebumps when you were describing all of the beautiful and meaningful family times that you had at Disney World. It made me think of how great a place it is, one of the places in the world that is remaining pure and untouched to most of the culture that is changing the world. It still has original ideas for pure, wholesome family fun that can be cherished by people from any generation to enjoy. He was truly one of the brightest minds that I can recollect from my studies because of all the inventions that he created from simple ideas. I think you did a wonderful job and I am glad you shared so much joy about your personal life and a true relation to this icon. Good job!

  5. One thing most people already know about me is that I am obsessed with the Beatles. I love their music and their image as a whole. I think the reason that I am so in love with the Beatles is because I am also in love with the 60’s and 70’s time period. The person that I would choose to have lunch with is John Lennon. John Lennon was an amazing person. He wanted peace at the time there was a lot of war. When I listen to John Lennon sing I feel at peace with myself. In his song Imagine he sung these lines “You, you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one.” These lyrics are so inspirational. He wanted peace for the world and for everyone to live as one without any war. The place that I would choose to have lunch with him would be in a field somewhere. This is because this place would be very serene and peaceful. It would be easy to just sit and think about things. I feel like John Lennon would enjoy this spot because of his want for peace on this world. People of this time considered people like this to be hippies. They thought that all hippies were bad people but this isn’t true. Hippies wanted peace and people looked at them differently because of their different looks and ideals. Some hippies may not have been good, but others were just trying to help the world in a more positive way. A more specific field that I would want the two of us to go to is the garden of Strawberry Field after which the song Strawberry Fields Forever was written. I think that this spot would be very inspirational. I would ask John about Yoko Ono, but most importantly about the breakup of the Beatles. I would ask how this breakup affected him, why this happened, and his views on the whole situation. I think that he would say his true feelings about the whole situation and that the money and the fame got the best of all of them. I would like to also learn about his assassination. I would like to know why he thinks that he was shot, how he felt about it, and the one thing he would want to do the most if he knew that this terrible event would happen on that day. I want to know how it feels to be so iconic, famous, and inspirational. I would want John Lennon to remember that I am a huge fan not only of his, but of the Beatles as well.

    1. Rachel, somehow I knew that you would choose a member of the Beatles. I know how much you love the Beatles and every time I hear of the Beatles I can’t help but to remember our previous tennis season. Long live that Beatles! I believe that you chose your famous guest very well. It would be awesome to meet John Lennon. Your location of where you would dine is very creative. The Beatles had a number of hit songs and records that are still heard today. I also like how you incorporated hippies into your blog. I also was intrigued by the question you would ask him. I am also curious as to why the Beatles broke up. Rock on Rachel, I know that you will never let the memory of the Beatles die.

    2. Rachel, I thought your blog was very thoughtful. I enjoyed that you chose a Beatles member, a group that you constantly remind us all not only of how good their music was, but what an inspiration they were for the period of time in which they lived. You were right about hippies; most people just think of them as weird just because they want peace and love for the world, two resources our world desperately needs. I'm sure you and John Lennon would have a peaceful afternoon having lunch in Strawberry Fields. Good job!

  6. When questioned with the topic about which famous dead person I would like to have lunch with, I really struggled. I wanted to find that perfect, particular person with whom I had such a fascination that I could talk openly with and have enough background and interest in them to truly pay attention. When considering all of these points that I wanted in my lunch guest, I put them together and decided on Michael Jackson. Michael was considered the King of Pop from his days as a member of the Jackson 5 to his solo career. Jackson is the type of person who lived a life under much scrutiny for some of the decisions he has made, situations he was put through, appearance, and much more. I think that he is one of the most fascinating and talented people to have ever walked the Earth. It seems like people either love him or they hated him, yet everybody still knew about him, his story, and his music. I am such a huge fan of his music and know many songs that are still being replayed around the world.
For some odd reason, I can picture us having our lunch in a large, open area like Central Park. I feel like an open area that is filled with life would be a nice area for anybody to have a conversation. While we are enjoying our lunch, I will ask him what it was like to be as famous as he was and what his life filled with fame and fortune was really like behind the closed doors of the glamour and paparazzi. I can imagine him responding with how his life was nice and he got to do what he loved every day but had to deal with much scrutiny and many rumors. I think that he would reveal that the rumors about him and all other details had really taken a toll on his life and changed him emotionally. I think I would also like to ask him about his death, which is still being looked at from all angles and analysis. I still want to know the true intentions of his doctor and Michael's intentions during his last few days. I would also ask what his future plans were to be for his music. I feel like he would be the type of man to change the world with his music, and I think that some songs changed people in good ways that may not be obvious, but are still present. When lunch was over, I would want Michael Jackson to think of me for many different reasons. I would want him to remember me as a true lover of his music and dancing, and also as a caring fan who felt the devastation from his death.

    1. I think that Michael Jackson is a very interesting choice for this blog. He went through a lot in his life. He went from being one of the most famous people in the world, to among the most controversial. I never really payed much attention to him or his music, but I was still aware of his existence. The questions you want to ask him are good, seeing his views on everything he went through. His reasons and how he dealt with everything is probably different from what we were led to believe.

    2. Carli I too believe you picked an interesting person to ask to lunch;however, he was the king of pop, so it would be fun to see. I too believe that he would tell you what he was thinking when he did all of those crazy things like when he had all of those surgeries done. I think Michael was going through some hard times in his life so i believe that is how he would respond. Therefore, I feel he would be interesting to talk too eventhough he had some issues through his life.

  7. The person I would probably have lunch with would be Christa McAuliffe. For those who do not recognize this woman to be a deceased celebrity, she was to be the first “Teacher in Space.” Christa was a school teacher in Massachusetts before she took an offer with NASA to be aboard the Challenger and go into space. On January 28, 1986, the world watched on their televisions as the crew of seven boarded the Challenger. After a minute and 13 seconds, the shuttle exploded during the launch, killing all seven passengers. Christa died that day as the first teacher/astronaut being survived by a loving husband and children.
There would be so many things I could ask Christa about that day. I would ask if she was nervous or excited about going to space, or if she had any idea what was going to happen to her and her fellow crew members. Christa was an everyday person, who was given the opportunity to do something out of this world. I would probably ask her about her family, her school, and how she was given the opportunity to work with NASA. I would tell her that she made a lasting impression on the world, and her inspirational story is encouraging to all young women to reach for the stars.
If I were to have lunch with Christa McAuliffe, we would probably eat at a museum. Maybe we would eat at one of the museums at the Smithsonian in Washington, and see all of the different museums and exhibits. It would be a calm afternoon, and we could just sit on a bench while I asked her all of my questions. Christa was a history teacher who loved to teach, so I hope she could teach me; not only history or school-learning, but also confidence and bravery. Christa may have only been a schoolteacher, but she left an everlasting mark on history and truly served her country well.

    1. I will be honest, I never heard of Christa McAuliffe before reading your blog. Although the combination she has is very interesting, being a teacher and an astronaut. I personally would not go into space, considering NASA's track record of causing explosions. Her taking the opportunity to go into space was an incredibly courageous deed. She was probably informed of the dangers or knew that danger was present beforehand.

It's very interesting that she was a teacher and got the opportunity to be an astronaut. It is very unfortunate what happened to her in space though. I think that I would like meet her as well.

  8. This blog is the first one to really make me think in a while. The problem is that the requirement for the famous person we can choose has to be dead. Most of the people I admire are still alive, although I think one of them died and was resuscitated after a heroine-induced heart attack. If we could pcik from famous people that still live today, I could have picked a person easier.
After thinking about the subject for a while, the person I decided on was Mahatmas Gandhi. Gandhi was the original nonviolent protester. I like him because he was actually a very deep minded person. Many of his quotes can have relevance today, even though he has been dead for around 50 years. I think it would be very interesting to talk with someone who has been in thr number of protests he has been in. He protested fully knowing the consequences for what he was doing, even with being arrested being a possibility. Gandhi lived as a vegetarian, considering this I doubt he would really care where he ate at as long as he did not have to eat meat. If I had to ask him a question of any relevance, I would ask why he was in all of those protests. All of the abuse he took from taking part in these, I am curious of why he would keep going back to those. Considering who Gandhi is, I have no idea of what to expect as an answer. Probably would leave me with something to make me think about how people treat eachother. The main reason I would pick Gandhi is because he can actually make me think deeply. I would like him to remember that I can really listen to his words of wisdom, and he would leave me with much to think about. Gandhi's quotes are very well said and are also very broad. They cover a large enough range to really be relevant in anything. Another thing they generally point to is being peaceful and modest. There is nothing wrong with living a life with those attributes, but living a life like this is harder now than it was in the past. It was hard doing this even in Gandhi's time, but it is more difficult now. Anyone capable of holding the qualities Gandhi had today, can be as great of a man he was.

Tragedy can inspire people as much as acts of kindness can

  9. If I could have lunch with a famous person, I would probably choose Rosa Parks. The reason I would dine with her is because she really helped launch the end to racial segregation. We would go eat at an Olive Garden. That is my favorite place to eat and I would love to be able to treat her to a good meal at somewhere that I love. I would ask my lunch guest how difficult it would have been to stand up for her race during that time period. During this time, they had separate schools, separate restaurants, and they could not even sit near a white man on a bus. Blacks were treated with zero respect. I think that she would respond to my question with that it was very difficult, and that she even got put in prison for what she did, but that it was worth it in the end. I would want Rosa to remember that I really look up to her and that we are all thankful for what she did to help end segregation. If I could go back in time to even just have one conversation with Rosa, I think that would be amazing. She is someone that I really look up to for everything she did. I think it would be very interesting to meet her.

    1. Larissa, this is a great person to pick to have luch with. You ask her what she was thinking about on the day she sat in the frontt of the bus. I would also like to know how she got through such a hard time in our world. Therefore, great idea on who to have lunch with.

    2. Larissa, I never thought of picking a historical person. Rose was one of the most portent people in society. The world changed because of her and it would be so interesting to hear her story and anything that was left out of history books. Maybe some inside information would be good to hear. Without her who knows maybe the world would still segregate black people.

  10. This was a topic for the blog that I had to think about. I knew that I wanted to do it on someone who I can relate to. So I picked, Alexander Dale Oen, he was an Olympic swimmer from Norway. He competed in the Beijing Olympics in the 100m breastroke and won a silver medal from his abilities. Unfortunately he died unexpectedly the winter before the London Olympics in 2012. I too do the 100 yard breastroke in high school swimming. In conclusion, if I could have lunch with him I would ask so many questions. I would also take him to lunch at a nice diner where we could have brunch. I would pick this place because it is a calm environment where we could talk on a friendly basis of conversation.
The first question I would ask, and the most important, would be what is his mind set before every race. During my races my coach always tells me to block everything out and relax. Usually I'm in a panic because I become so nervous by the time I step onto the blocks. I believe he would respond by saying that he has a calm mind set where he can see himself winning the race no matter what. I also believe he would tell me that he always has to be confident in what he does, and that is what I should do. Also, I would probably ask him how hard he works out and how many times a day he works out. I would also like to know that if he loses how he gets through those harsh emotions of losing.
I would also like to have him teach me how to swim a good breastroke technique. This would be very good to learn because I would like to place top 19 at states in this event if I go to states. I would also ask him if I could race him because it would something amazing to experience. As a result, by the time our brunch date is over I would hope to have learned a great deal on how to swim well and what to think about before I swim. I would also like him to remember me as a girl has great determination in following her dreams on becoming a good swimmer.

I think that you do a good job of explaining how you feel before a race and you are curious about how he prepared differently. He would be able see you as a strong girl who isn't afraid to follow her dreams no matter what. You go after everything you face head on and he would be able to tell after talking with you for five minutes. Great choice of personal and really good questions.

    2. Emma, I think it's really nice that you did a blog on someone that has a lot in common with you and that you can relate to. Choosing an Olympic swimmer would be a great idea, i always wondered what it feels like to be in the Olympics. It would be interesting to ask him like how much he has to train. It would also be interesting to hear what he is thinking before every race because its something different for everyone.

  11. This blog is really, really hard for me! So, I took inspiration from Rachel and chose a topic that I’m really obsessed with, which is the Titanic. The person I would invite to lunch would be the captain of the Titanic, Captain Edward John Smith. The reason I would invite him to lunch is, not only am I interested in the Titanic, but to question Captain Smith about what really happened that night. I’m not sure if many people watch the history channel, but there are often shows discussing the Titanic. Many of these shows are about the speculations around the disaster. There are so many different accounts about what happened from the survivors, that it would be invaluable to history for Captain Smith to clarify what really happened on that fateful night.
As for the place that I would take Captain Smith, I think I would travel to England. I mean I’m having lunch with a dead guy, why not spend a little money while I’m at it? I would take Captain Smith to England because that is where he was from, so I suppose he’d like to have a lunch back in his country.
The biggest question I would ask Captain Smith is if he could change what happened that night, would he? Looking back on the incident, reveals that the Titanic helped shape our ship travel in the future. Because of all the lives lost companies were forced to invest in safety measures. With this knowledge, I would ask Captain Smith what he would have done. My hope, is that he would respond he would have let the incident happen again. Even though it was a tragic event, if the Titanic had not sunk, another ship would have. Either way, lives would have been lost. It would be better off to prevent them earlier.
Finally, when it comes for what I would want my guest to take away from the lunch it would be this simple thing: we remember.

    1. This blog was tough for me too. I spent a long time trying to figure out who I would bring to lunch if I could choose anyone. Captain Smith is someone I never thought of, and it is an awesome idea. Personally, your question to Captain Smith seems like it would be an extremely hard question to answer. I honestly have no idea what he would say, but the main point of "we remember" is a great point to finish with, as it is true.
Good job with the blog this week Maddie.

    2. Maddie, I'm sure that if he could change what happened on the Titanic, he would. However, it was not truly his fault that all of this happened. How would he have changed it? There was almost no way to avoid this tragedy other than the redesigning of the ship itself, or if he himself were to look out for the icebergs. The blame could not have been placed on him.

  12. If I were to have lunch with any famous person from the past, I would have lunch with Elvis Presley. I want to have lunch because he is a rock n' roll legend. He also served in the army. He was the king of rock n roll, he pretty much introduced it to the world. His songs are so inspirational and left imprints on many people's lives. He started rock n roll and inspired many artists to play rock n roll. He pretty much changed the style of music for everyone. Elvis Presley is one of the most famous music artists ever. I would take Elvis to the Diner in DuBois because its kinda of old style like his time. The most important question I would ask him is, "What made you change rock n roll?" I think that he would respond that he wanted to express himself, show his personality, and share his talent and ideas with other people. I would expect to learn more about his personality and how unique he is. I would also learn by having lunch with him if he was really as great as people made him seem. We know that he was into drugs, but did it affect his personality? Also I would find out if he was a friendly guy and not full of himself like many famous singers. I feel like he's actually a friendly guy. I would like him to take into consideration that people actually care about artists and actually want to get to know them for other reasons then just the fact of meeting a famous person. My Dad really likes Elvis and he tries to sing like him all the time....tries. He also plays his songs all the time. His songs are really popular but sometimes I do wonder what kind of person Elvis really is and if he has a fake personality.

    1. Leah, Elvis is someone that I would consider also to have lunch with. I used to be a giant Elvis Presley fan when I was younger and used to do stuff just like him too. It is very unique that you want to bring him to an old style restaurant just because that is the way he is. I have never been to that restaurant, but I have heard that it is very good. I was thinking that exact same question that you were. He changed music as we know it, and our society is very thankful for all that he has done for us. That question about drugs that you asked seems to wander into someone's mind at sometime. How could someone like him, a rock legend, be that into drugs that it kills him. The mystery is very interesting.

    2. Leah, I laughed when you said your dad tries to be like Elivs. I think the place you chose to take Elvis is really good because that's exactly where he would feel comfortable! I also think that it'd be interesting to know what he was feeling while he was famous. Many adults HATED Elvis because they considered his famous dance moves to be inappropriate. They didn't like the rock and roll that he sang, so I think that could have possible contributed to some of his problems. I mean, it would make anyone a little crazy to have people hating them.

    3. Elvis is a great idea of someone to go and have lunch with. It would certainly be an interesting time, especially since he had such an interesting and seemingly diverse character. I have never eaten at an old style restaurant, but it would certainly be a great experience, even more so because you would be there with Elvis. This is a great idea of a person to eat lunch with. Also, asking him how he felt about rock n roll was a great idea too. I would be prepared to get a long answer, that was just as interesting as he was. I enjoy his songs, and it is certainly a great idea to wonder what kind of person Elvis really was, I do not think anyone except Elvis could answer that question.

  14. Choosing who to have lunch with is a tough decision. There are so many great people that have lived, it is hard to choose. The person I would like to have lunch with is Abraham Lincoln. He was a great president, and hard worker. He went from the lower class of society, to one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen. If we went to lunch, we would go to the Salt Lick barbecue restaurant. The Salt Lick has some of the best barbecue and steak I have ever seen, or eaten. Since nearly everyone likes barbecue and steak, this would be a great place to eat. The most important question I would ask Abraham Lincoln would have to be: "how did you handle the problem that faced you when you became president?" It would be a great lesson to learn how to deal with difficult things in life better, and how to persist. These ideas that he would share, would probably apply to many things in everyone's life. He would be someone who has many lessons to share about most tough topics in society today. I would expect Abraham Lincoln to respond with well thought out answers. He would probably say things about perseverance and hard work, along with a desire to learn. I also expect that I would learn a lot from Abraham Lincoln. He was a great leader and persistent person. He would have a lot to teach, not just to me, but to anyone. If he would remember one thing about me, I would have it be my want to learn. I always want to be better and learn more, to be better at anything I do. Abraham Lincoln was a great president, and persistent person in the face of hardships. This would make him a great person to learn from, and would probably benefit anyone and everyone who listened to him.

    1. For some reason I expected you to choose Abramham Lincoln! I'm pretty sure the president would love barbecue, so good choice in resteraunt. I think it would be a great thing to find out how Lincoln dealt with the problems he faced. I think that Lincoln showed a great persistance. He literally fought to the death to abolish slavery and to reunite the country.

    2. Jess, I hard a hard time choosing because there is were a lot of great people to choose from! Abraham Linclon is considered one of our greatest presidents. He made so many contributions to our country. Having lunch with him would be very interesting. The question that was the most important to you seemed very interesting. I think it would be cool to see what his answer would be. Also because of how much times have changed from then to now. He was a very wise man and I agree with you on his answers. I think it would be cool to find out what his views on the government was. You had a good blog this week.

  15. The famous person I would like to meet and have lunch with would be Edgar Allen Poe. While he was almost definitely certifiably insane, I have been in love with his works for years. His insanity brought out an imagination and imagery that was outstanding. While the majority of his works are very dark, all of them are beautiful in their despair and sadness. While it might be a little odd to want to eat with a crazy person, I think it would be so awesome to be able to talk to him and see what he was personally like instead of seeing the dark, miserable, and gloomy person that I would have imagined from just reading his stories and poetry.
I'm not completely sure where I would take him... But due to the fact that he was an alcoholic, I would have to say somewhere where alcohol would not be served. I would also like to take him to somewhere nice, so that narrows it down.
I would probably ask him if any of his stories reflected the tragedies that occurred during his life. I think that he would probably respond with a vague answer, as would be expected as an answer to such a deeply personal question from a complete stranger. I would hope that he would remember that he became a well loved author after his death. I would want him to know that his tales continued to affect many generations after his death. He may have died in a ditch, feeling worthless and unloved, but at least he would know that he had changed lives with his stories of misery. I would expect to learn about his real personality instead of the person that I imagined from the stories that he had written from the lunch that we would have together.
I would really want to meet this man that had affected so many simply by writing his own twisted and strange thoughts. Edgar Allen Poe was a deeply troubled man, and his stories showed this, which gives a real honesty to his stories.

    1. Tori, Edger Alen Poe is someone very different. I think that's cool that you picked someone that was not very common amount people our age. I agree with you that he is a very dark and depressing person and so is his writing. He is probably considered one of the best poets in history. I feel like going somewhere alcohol isn't served would be a good idea! I think it would be interesting to hear all about his gloomy past and also what though was behind all his writings. I feel like if he really knew how much his poetry affected people it would make him feel better. I think that the person you chose was very interesting!

    2. Tori, Edgar Allen Poe is someone interesting and different. He was an awesome poet who really influenced a great line of other poets. Having lunch with him would be full of learning and opportunity to grow as a person. To know how he felt during his life and the pain, yet beauty, in the poems he expressed. You did a great job of explaining why you would enjoy him!

  16. I would really enjoy meeting, let alone having lunch with, Marilyn Monroe. She was a risque woman who always stood her ground. She reached for what she wanted and ended up losing her life at a young age. I would like to talk to her about what it was like to be a sex icon in a time when sex was unspoken of. She was an actress, starring in a few movies, still watched today. I feel as though she is one of those famous people who became more famous after her death. Her suicide, which is actually still being investigated today, brought much attention to her. When I read some of her quotes, she was very intelligent and confident. She really supported women and beauty, and a woman's need for love and education. She is famous for standing over, and then posing, a grate blowing hot, steamy air up her dress. I would love to eat at Olive Garden with her. It is one of my favorite places to eat and it would be awesome to not only get my Fettucine Alfredo but to have a conversation with Marilyn Monroe.
